It is never easy for a parent to watch their child struggle, or have an illness. Drug and alcohol dependence and substance abuse can be debilitating to the teen going through it, but unfortunately it is a family disease. Parents may not know where to turn when their child is acting out. School counselors may want to help, but also have an immense workload. For some troubled teens, weekly therapy is not enough. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we have developed our residential extended care program in North America – USA, and we have found it extremely helpful and successful in beating drug and alcohol addiction in teens. Our combination of regular and unconventional therapies provides teenagers with a unique experience.
In addition to “regular” therapy such as individual therapy and group therapy, we offer therapies such as equine therapy, wilderness therapy, and rites of passage therapy so that teens can experience nature as never before. We also teach the lessons of responsibility and accountability. Here, teens will learn how to be a team player, and will develop their social skills with not only adults, but their peers as well. Our students will also become volunteers in the local community and will learn how to gain employment.
Just imagine the stressors that adults have, and magnify that stress. A teenager simply does not have the coping skills or life experience to deal well with tough situations. At Rites of Passage NW, we like to add more tools to their toolbox.
