When a teenager experiments with alcohol and drugs, sometimes it is simply just a learning phase. Other teenagers are not so lucky, and get quickly addicted. This creates such heartbreak for parents, who usually have no idea where to turn, and feel quite helpless. Parents may look to guidance counselors or weekly therapists, but not all types of therapy is a good fit for every troubled teen. Here at Rites of Passage NW, our long term drug treatment program in the NW is for those teens who require a little bit more help. Our residential program combines regular, conventional therapy with outdoor types of therapy for an unforgettable and life-changing experience.
Our teenagers will learn all about accountability and responsibility, and will perform daily chores while in our program. They will also volunteer locally in the community, and find gainful employment. Our students also learn how to work as part of a team, whether it is with elders or peers. While we do have individual and group peer therapy, we also include equine therapy, wilderness therapy, and rites of passage therapy so that teens can get back to nature, and rediscover their work and life.
Teens are under a terrible amount of stress. The problem is, they do not have adequate coping mechanisms or stress relievers such as adults do. Alcohol and drugs may look like a good solution. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we want to show teens a happy and healthy life without the use of drugs or alcohol.
