It is extremely painful for parents and family to watch their children struggle with drugs and alcohol. For a parent who is not familiar with the throes of addiction, this can be one of the toughest problems for them to face as a parent. They may feel helpless, not knowing where to turn. They may try weekly therapy or school guidance counselors, but if a teen is deeply involved with substances, it may take a bit of intervention. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we offer wilderness therapy for substance juvenile delinquents in North America – USA, getting teens on the road to recovery and out of personal and legal trouble.
What is wilderness therapy? As a rehabilitation facility, we offer traditional and conventional treatment, such as group therapy and individual therapy, and 12-step meetings for teens to attend. However, we also offer unique experiences, such as wilderness treks, hiking, rites of passage therapy, and equine therapy. We have learned that getting back to basics and back to nature helps teens recover. Far away from their busy lives, there are no cell phones allowed here and there is no Internet.
While here, teens are expected to integrate in the community, lending a hand and volunteering. Teens are also expected to participate and help out on the ranch by doing daily chores. We are a working ranch here at Rites of Passage, so teens will learn about gardening, farming, and taking care of animals while here. Teens are also expected to find employment or attend school.
We want teens to believe that recovery is possible and here, they learn to live a life without the use of alcohol or drugs.
