Wilderness Therapy

Wilderness Therapy

The concept of wilderness therapy has been around for many years taking on a number of different theories and approaches to therapy. From boot camp to survival methods, many of these programs have experienced varying degrees of success and failure over time. At Rites of Passage, our wilderness therapy program takes on a more unique and natural approach to working with our students.

Keeping the individual involved in the treatment process is important.

Our students work closely with counselors, therapists and other staff to develop an individual treatment plan primarily centered on our wilderness adventure activities.
Wilderness Therapy

This individualized treatment plan being implemented in large part to illicit change in target behaviors. Psychotherapy by qualified professionals can then evaluate our students’ progress.

Everything done at Rites of Passage has therapeutic value. Quiet time in the wilderness allows the student to reflect on past behaviors, taking responsibility for their actions and consider where they want to be in future.

Our ‘rites of passage’ approach to our wilderness therapy program requires the student not just to complete a task but understand the skills and lessons being taught from that task.

Encouraging our students to take responsibility for preparing meals, shelter and navigation while on expeditions teaches them to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.

Empowerment therapy shows they have within themselves the skills and abilities to overcome the many challenges they will face in life, giving them the confidence and self reliance to stand on their own two feet.

The intense but nurturing one on one therapy allows our students to discover and deal with any issues that may be at the root of their poor choices in life.

We believe that the poor choices and behaviors of our troubled youth and young adults should not be punished but treated.

At Rites of Passage Wilderness Therapy, we are just the motivators. It is our students that ultimately make the changes they want to see in themselves. Contact our staff today at (800)794-0980 to learn more and to register today.
