Wilderness Therapy for Troubled Youth, Teens and Young Adults

Wilderness Therapy for Troubled Youth, Teens and Young Adults

It can be heartbreaking for a parent to watch their son or daughter go through tough times. When a teen goes through an exceptionally hard time, a parent may feel helpless and not know where to turn. Sometimes teens and families need a little extra help to get through the rough spots. Problems like substance abuse, obesity and overeating, anger, depression, and anxiety may be just too much for a family unit to handle. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we offer wilderness therapy for troubled youth, teens and young adults that can help teens get through the hard times and come out the other side.

Parents and families often may ask, “what is wilderness therapy”? What we have done here at Rites of Passage is take traditional problem-solving and turn it into a unique experience. We could be described as a fat camp, a rehab or substance abuse facility, or a psychiatric facility, and the truth is, we all three but also none of those. We understand that each child is different, with individual and specialized problems. Here we focus on a holistic diet, exercise in the form of trekking and hiking, introspection, and conventional and unconventional therapy so that teens can live a sober, satisfying life free of struggle.

There are rigid parts of our program. There is no cell phone or Internet usage here at our ranch. Teens are expected to do daily chores, participate in work study or online classes, and volunteer in the community. We also offer aftercare to help teens reintegrate back into life, sober and happy.
