Recipe for success at the Rites of Passage Obesity Health and Wellness Camp
Support – one of the best contributors to success in getting in shape is to make it public. With friends and family keeping someone accountable, they are more likely to follow through on their fitness plan. At the Rites of Passage Obesity Health and Wellness Camp there is a ready- made community of people all in the same boat. We all know what our goal is to get in shape! We encourage one another on days where we don’t ‘feel’ like eating right or exercising, we challenge each other to keep pushing on, and we inspire each other with success stories.
Healthy eating – It cannot be highlighted enough how important the food we consume is on our health. 80% of a person’s success with respect to getting healthy will depend on their diet. This is a staggering statistic which is why the Rites of Passage Obesity Health and Wellness Camp put such an emphasis on healthy, holistic foods. For more information see About Healthy Eating.
Aims – “If you aim at nothing you will hit it every time” (~Zig Ziglar). Quite often attempts to get in shape fail because a person has not set clear and specific goals. Examples of specific goals include: increase the amount of vegetables I eat to three times a week, or exercise every day for at least 30 minutes. These are naturally built into the program at the Rites of Passage Obesity Health and Wellness Camp. We aim to walk every day in a fun and exhilarating environment, and we aim to eat in a holistic manner. Achieving these goals are a guarantee. It’s this invaluable habit formed during their time with us that enables continued success for students when they return home and have to continue setting specific goals for themselves there.
Psychotherapy – Student’s get time to process important questions during their time with us under the supervision of supportive and trained staff. Questions like, ‘why do I turn to food so much?’, ‘Are there other coping mechanisms I can learn to cope in life?’, ‘what are my personal reasons for wanting to get in shape?’, ‘how can I stay motivated?’. With our licensed mental health therapists who specialize in therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) students can process painful emotions, learn new coping life skills, develop resolve and determination, and form new habits.
Exercise – Want to boost your energy? Improve your mood? Combat numerous diseases? Perhaps live longer? Control your weight? Get better sleep? ALL WHILE HAVING FUN?? Then exercise is an essential ingredient in our recipe for success to getting in shape. At the Rites of Passage Obesity Health and Wellness Camp exercise is a daily activity as students may climb rope ladders, summit mountains, traverse rugged coastline, kayak, beach walk, and contribute to daily camp life all in the amazing outdoors with our fully trained, fun-loving trek instructors.
The Rites of Passage Obesity Health and Wellness Camp set students up for success by incorporating all these ingredients into our program. We help campers turn I wish into I will.
