Holistic Food is what separates our program from other obesity health and wellness therapy programs. Holistic Food is food in its original state as found in Nature. Holistic food is unprocessed, without additives, and without any artificial enrichment or fortification. Diet is so important for healing and detoxing the body from processed foods and other unnatural chemicals. Our holistic food diet here at Rites of Passage NW Wilderness Therapy allows your child to get a dietary base line during their obesity health and wellness experience.
Holistic Food nourishes and rejuvenates a person as a whole, providing benefits to the body, the mind and the soul. Holistic food retains its natural properties throughout the course of preparation. In today’s age, many youth are struggling with eating disorders or malnutrition disorders due to using diet to stuff their feelings and escape. Other behavioral disorders such as OCD and ADHD can be greatly affected by the foods kids eat. By eating whole foods without supplements and that are NOT “enriched,”, by completely cutting out “white foods” such as white sugar, white flour etc…we have found that the impact on a child’s wellbeing and moods is dramatically improved and weight loss is inevitable. Oral health is also an additional area that is improved.
Meals consist of carefully planned menus that are nutritious, tasty, light enough to carry and safely preserved to reduce spoilage. We include local, organic, whole and fresh foods. A registered dietitian plans the menu.
We are referring to those foods that are in their natural state, minimally processed, unadulterated, containing no artificial additives or preservatives. Our unique obesity health and wellness program brings your child to a state close to nature with minimal distractions from why they are here. Health foods in a healing wilderness environment go hand in hand complimenting each other to have maximum impact on our students. Students our taught the importance of what they put in their bodies as well as the side effects of not getting enough of what their bodies need to optimally function. This creates a chance for change.
