Being a teenager is tough in this day and age, but being an overweight teenager can be a painful burden. With bullying running rampant in schools, an overweight teen may be experiencing a lot of stress and heartache in just their day to day life. With nowhere to turn for help, teens can often get depressed and anxious. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we have many weight loss programs for kids in the NW that can help obese teens get the weight off, and keep it off, while developing healthier habits.
Rites of Passage NW is not just a traditional “fat camp,” and there are many different facets of our program that help make it successful. We want to build or rebuild damaged self-esteem. We believe that getting to the root of the problem is the only way to eradicate it. Because of this, our teens will participate in both individual and group therapy, and will learn how to journal and be introspective.
Diet and exercise are also large parts of our program. Here, teens will eat a completely holistic diet. While it does take some getting used to, teens love the results they see when looking in the mirror. Our teens also learn how to calories count and meal plan, so that success can continue after discharge.
Many teens think exercise is boring, so we teach the opposite. Instead of just working out several times a week, our teens go on wilderness trek and survival adventures, to get in shape, but have fun doing it. Exercise doesn’t need to be boring.
