Life can be tough enough for a teenager without having to deal with being overweight or obese. Between anxiety, depression, and bullying from other peers, being overweight can be extremely tough for any teen to handle. Teens may feel embarrassed to reach out for help, but at the same time, are not sure how to begin a weight loss regimen or program. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we have a weight loss camp for kids in North America – USA that will not only help teens get the weight off, but keep it off, long after they leave our program.
We focus on several different types of treatment here at Rites of Passage NW. First, we need to change food habits. This can often be the toughest thing. With our completely holistic diet, we teach overweight teens that healthy food doesn’t necessarily taste bad. Our diet may take a little getting used to, but teens will learn how to count calories and meal plan, while looking and feeling better.
Exercise is also a large portion of our program. We teach that exercise does not necessarily mean going to the gym three times a week. Our exercise takes place in the wilderness, with treks, hiking, swimming, and survival camp. We teach that exercise is fun and rewarding.
Teens will also participate in group and individual counseling while at our program. We have learned over time that we need to get to the root of weight gain and obesity, in order to progress to healthier habits and higher self-esteem.
