Food touches everyone’s lives and we view food as one of the seven wonders of the world. Indeed, our holistic approach to treatment in the Rites of Passage Ranch Long Term Care Program encompasses nutrition. We have seen that residents are lacking in nourishment when they arrive at our program. Some residents have depleted their body’s with chemicals and poor eating habits.
We have found that using holistic foods which are in their natural state without preservatives or artificial enrichment and fortification help in healing. With a well-planned and balanced menu residents’ moods and feelings of well-being drastically improve. Residents have higher energy levels and are more engaged in their treatment. Eating with a healthy approach helps balance out fluctuating weight issues which can be linked to a spectrum of disorders and conditions.
At the Rites of Passage Ranch Long Term Care Program we educate about how putting unhealthy things into our bodies can result in numerous ill effects on our health and also about the side effects of not getting enough of what our bodies need. Some residents’ bodies have taken abuse for years from substance abuse and poor nutrition. Others find themselves eating a poor diet due to upbringing, habit, misunderstanding or numerous other different reasons. We teach about the importance of, and the elements of, good nutrition and how that affects our moods and overall feelings of wellness.
By teaching what foods are good and how to eat a nutrient dense diet residents leave our program with the know how to better take care of themselves.
