Weight loss is always challenging, even for adults. When someone is a teenager, any type of weight loss can seem like a huge mountain to climb. Teens may not know where to start when it comes to exercising and making better eating choices. Parents and teens can often feel helpless, not knowing where to turn. Asking for help can be embarrassing, although it doesn’t have to be. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we feature a summer weight loss camp for teens in Washington that can not only help teens lose the weight, but help keep it off, even after they are discharged from our program.
While at our summer program, teens will learn how to have better eating habits, and will learn how to meal plan for themselves. Our completely holistic diet may take some getting used to, but our teens love the weight loss results after a few weeks eating healthier foods.
Not only do we focus on diet here at Rites of Passage NW, we also focus on exercise. Forget about exercise with regard to going to the boring gym a few times a week. We teach teens that exercise can be fun and rewarding. By participating in our wilderness treks and hiking adventures, teens learn that exercising can be fun, especially in groups. We have discovered that getting back to nature is also an excellent way to really get the body in tune.
Teens will also see a professional counselor regularly while at our program. We want to treat any co-occurring disorders, such as depression and anxiety, and get to the root of what caused weight gain in the first place.
