It is never easy for a parent to watch their child go through something difficult. Some children pass easily through troubled times, while others do not. A parent can easily feel helpless if their child is in the grips of substance abuse, depression, or is experiencing problems at school. They may turn to their son or daughter’s school, or try weekly therapy, but children often resent weekly therapy. Schools can be overcrowded with an overworked staff, and the child may get lost in the mix. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we have many programs for troubled youth in Washington that can help a child figure things out. When other avenues fail, we believe in accountability and responsibility, to help a child realize that he or she does have worth, and there is a bright future.
We offer therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, known as CBT, in addition to group therapy and one-on-one therapies. We help our students work in team-building exercises, so that they are able to work well with both peers and adults. Every program for every adolescent will be slightly different, and each will be tailored exactly to the child’s specific needs, so that they don’t get lost in the mix.
Imagine the type of stress that an adult goes through, and magnify that. Children and adolescents do not have strong coping mechanisms when it comes to dealing with stress. Here at Rites of Passage, we like to put more tools in their toolbox, so to speak.
