Obesity Health and Wellness Camp for Teens in Washington

Obesity Health and Wellness Camp for Teens in Washington

Being a teenager can be tough enough. But, when a teenager is being bullied because of their weight, even going to school can be an excruciating nightmare. Grades may plummet, and teens may become depressed, even reaching out to drugs and alcohol. Starting any kind of weight loss program, even as an adult, can be hard. Being a teenager and being unfamiliar with healthy eating habits can make diet and exercise even harder. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we have an obesity health and wellness camp for teens in Washington to help teens get the weight off – and keep it off, even after they return home.

Our completely holistic approach to food preparation and diet can be a startling change at first, but we show teens how to prepare food so that taste doesn’t have to be compromised. Teens will learn how to count calories, as well as meal planning. Teens will be able to take all of their new habits home with them so that they can continue a healthy lifestyle. We like to be much different than a traditional “fat camp.”

Exercise is also a large part of our program, but we keep exercise fun. We teach teens that exercise can be a lot more than jogging on a treadmill several times a week. It can be about wilderness treks, hiking, and becoming one with nature. Our hikes may be tough at first, but they become a fun adventure that teens look forward to.
