Teenagers in this day and age are under a lot of stress. Between school, relationships, and tough things such as peer pressure, being a teen can be hard to deal with. A teenager that is overweight may experience more painful problems, such as bullying, anxiety, and depression. An overweight teen may want to lose weight, but may have no idea where to turn or who to ask for help. At Rites of Passage NW, we have an obesity health and wellness camp for kids in North America – USA that will help obese teens not only learn better habits, but will help them lose weight and maintain a healthy, slimmer weight long after discharge.
Rites of Passage NW is very unique and is not just a traditional “fat camp.” We focus on many different components for success and progress. Our teens eat a completely holistic diet while here. This may take a bit of getting used to, but after a few weeks, teens love looking and feeling better. We also teach meal preparation, calorie counting and meal planning.
Exercise is a big portion of our program as well, although we do not focus on traditional exercise, such as running on a treadmill. Our teens get to experience nature, and get in shape while participating in wilderness adventures and hikes, or swimming in the great outdoors. We teach that exercise is fun and rewarding.
Therapy is also a large portion of our program. Teens will take part in both group and individual therapy while here, getting at the root of their obesity and other problems, if any.
