It is never easy for a parent to watch as their child struggles, especially if it deals with alcohol and drug abuse and addiction. Parents may feel helpless, as if they have nowhere to turn. They may even be embarrassed to ask for help, but are not sure what to do, as their teen desperately needs help. Some teenagers experiment a little and may experience problems, but these problems are easily overcome with help from school guidance counselors or weekly therapy. Other teenagers may require more of an intervention. At Rites of Passage NW, we have a long term rehab center in Washington, where teenagers can go to recover from drugs and alcohol.
Our combination of “regular” therapy such as individual and group therapy, with unique experiences such as equine therapy, rites of passage therapy, and wilderness therapy, can help change child’s life. Troubled teens will learn more about nature, to help them rediscover their worth. In our programs, teens are taught accountability and responsibility, and will volunteer in the local community to help give back. Teens will also learn how to respect others, including their peers and elders. By the end of our program, teens will also learn how to find gainful employment.
Teens can be under an awful lot of stress, and turn to alcohol and drugs to cope. They simply do not have the coping skills and life experiences that an adult has, to help them on their way. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we like to offer some more tools in their coping toolbox.
