When a teen first experiments with alcohol or drugs, it may not be indicative of a problem. Unfortunately, teens experiment, and most come through the experimentation phase and go on with their lives. However, some teens fall prey to the grips of drug addiction and require some help. Parents may feel confused and helpless and may not know where to turn. School guidance counselors and weekly counseling is often a good start, but for some kids, it requires a more intense therapy. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we have a long term drug addiction program in Washington to help teens rediscover how great life can be without alcohol or drugs by rediscovering themselves through therapy and nature.
Part of what makes our program so unique is the combination of different therapies. Teens will participate in conventional therapy such as individual counseling, and group therapy with their peers. However, they will also experience therapies such as equine therapy, wilderness therapy, rites of passage therapy, and much more. By getting back to nature, teens can often rediscover life. Our students also learn about accountability and responsibility while in a Rites of Passage NW program.
They are expected to participate in daily chores, and will be accountable for all of their actions. Our teens here learn how to be a team player, and to better communicate with adults and their peers. Teens are also expected to volunteer in the community, and to find gainful employment after the program is over. Teens will also learn how to introspect, by writing in a journal, and thinking about the causes and effects of their actions.
