Parents may have a tough time finding answers when their child is in trouble. For those teenagers and adolescents experiencing problems with substance abuse, violence, anger, depression, and anxiety, treatment may not be readily available, or treatments may be tried that simply are not going to help every child. Sometimes a child or adolescent needs a stronger intervention than just weekly therapy or school counselors. Here at Rites of Passage NW, we offer camps for troubled young adults in Washington that allow teenagers to rediscover themselves again. Our camps give troubled teens hope and get them back on the right track.
In our camps, we offer many different types of therapies that a child or adolescent may have never experienced. Therapies such as rites of passage therapy, wilderness therapy, hiking therapy, and equine therapy helps bring troubled teens closer to nature, and give them a respect and appreciation for life. We also do practice very conventional therapies with our students, such as individual and group therapy with peers. Here, teenagers will learn accountability and responsibility, how to hold a job, and how to be part of a team.
Here at Rites of Passage NW, we like to add more tools to a teen’s toolbox. Fundamentally, teenagers do not have the same coping mechanisms or life experiences that adults do, and this can lead their stress to bundle up inside, coming out in ways that it shouldn’t. Here, we teach them how to cope, and to become functional adults.
