Art Therapy Wellness

Art Therapy Wellness

A distinguishing characteristic of Rites of Passage NW Wilderness Therapy wellness camps is our focus on integrating holistic methods into our therapies including art therapy programs. Expressive Arts, or art therapy, encourages students to express themselves through a variety of activities, from creative writing to art projects that, in the wilderness setting, can be the size of a beach! It is a fun and inclusive way for them to process what they learn during group sessions.

We incorporate all of nature’s resources in this expressive therapy. Embedding art and self-expression into therapy has many important advantages for troubled youth who are resistant to more mainstream therapies. It creates an atmosphere of fun and games of which therapy is a natural result. When Rites of Passage NW Wilderness Therapy students are given a creative, unstructured environment.

Wilderness Inspiration

Expressive therapy is predicated on the assumption that people can heal through use of imagination and the various forms of creative expression. Our emphasis here at Rites of Passage NW Wilderness Therapy wellness camp is not on the final product, but on the whole creative process that leads up to it. This is known as healing through creating, and it is also a great deal of fun.
This free-flowing therapy model allows for a unique treatment plan that can continue to develop and evolve throughout their entire weight and wellness program. Our therapists can be effective by altering their approach based on each student’s needs, or through using multiple forms of expression to aid with deeper exploration. Creative writing, songwriting and drama therapy combine to pack a massive therapeutic punch!
